Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, has shared his thoughts on what Lamine Yamal needs to do for the next phase of his career.

The young FC Barcelona prodigy has been impressing the world with his talent for the past two years, and many prominent figures are calling for his entourage to protect him given his young age.

During Euro 2024, his national team teammate, Dani Carvajal, urged FC Barcelona to shield the player from media pressure since his breakout.

Now, Lamine Yamal’s coach, Luis de la Fuente, echoed this sentiment in an interview when asked if the player should be protected as observers suggest.

“It’s the process he needs to follow. He has been very well supported by the veterans. At all times, they have backed him. We’ve told him, ‘Don’t worry, be patient, it’s a long journey because those who praise and laud you now won’t hesitate to say the opposite later.’”

“He needs to mature, even though, for his age, he is very mature—more so than other kids. These experiences help him grow.

He needs to strengthen personally, continue growing as a person, and gain values. With that, he will also grow professionally,” said the European Championship-winning coach.

Despite his young age, Lamine Yamal has become a very important player for his club and national team, attracting a lot of attention.

The player, trained at La Masia, was recently named the best young player at the European Championship.
