Luis Enrique and Paris Saint-Germain are currently with their backs against the wall. In the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, the Parisian club suffered a 1-0 defeat at the Signal Iduna Park.

This loss feels like déjà vu for Luis Enrique. They were also defeated in the first leg of the quarter-finals against FC Barcelona before qualifying in the return leg. Nevertheless, the Spanish coach wants to maintain a positive mindset.

However, he doesn’t rule out the possibility of being eliminated against Borussia Dortmund at the Parc des Princes. And in case that happens, the former Spain national team coach aims to be fair-play. Yet deep down, it will hurt him a lot to go out against BVB.

During a press conference on Monday, May 6, 2024, Luis Enrique once again stated that he doesn’t want to lose.

However, football matches are full of surprises, and if it turns out to be a bad one, the Spaniard doesn’t want to be a sore loser.

He made it clear that if Borussia Dortmund qualifies for the final, he will tip his hat to them. But he added a snappy remark.

“Failure if we’re eliminated? That’s a very Spanish question, always leaning towards the negative! Life will go on, the sun will shine, which is always wonderful in Paris. We’ll applaud the opponent, even if they don’t deserve it, and the next day we’ll be disappointed but motivated to reach the final next season!” Luis Enrique quipped. However, he will have no regrets about his team’s journey. Nevertheless, the former FC Barcelona coach doesn’t want to entertain the thought of elimination. Because for him, PSG has everything it takes to thrash BVB on Tuesday.

Facing Borussia Dortmund in the return leg, Luis Enrique only wants to think about victory.

“The only phrase I know in French: ‘We will win!’ That’s all I know! And as I like it, I always think we’re going to win! ‘We will win!’” he said first.

“Regardless of the result, we will play tomorrow! We will try to create chances, to score goals. Our mentality will not change, from the first minute to the last, it will be the same.”

To achieve this, it requires effort at all levels. Thus, Luis Enrique expects his players to defend and attack together.

“A football team is like an orchestra, we all play an instrument, each contributes, even if the players are world-class, they still have to help defend and bring the ball forward, that’s the foundation,” he concluded.
