For the upcoming transfer window, FC Barcelona is looking to strengthen its midfield. Catalan press reveals that the club is targeting 8 players.
In addition to wanting to attract a left-back and a winger for the left flank, the current second-placed team in the Spanish league hopes to recruit a midfielder, an area where injuries to Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and especially Gavi have significantly weakened the Blaugrana this season. Ideally, FC Barcelona would like to make a big investment in a proven player like Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) or Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad).
But it’s not certain that the club’s finances allow for such operations.
When Verratti wanted to sign for Barça
The sports management has therefore listed the names of more affordable players. And according to the local newspaper Sport, Barça, which is also interested in Croatian Marcelo Brozovic (Al-Nassr), has not ruled out Marco Verratti. It’s no secret that the Spanish giant has been keen on the Italian for many years.
In the summer of 2017, Barça tried their luck, and the former PSG player seemed initially enthusiastic before seeing Paris Saint-Germain shut the door on him. This time, the Parisian club won’t be an obstacle if FC Barcelona really wants to secure the signature of the midfielder transferred to Al-Arabi (Qatar) last summer.
The management could also rely on youth players from La Masia. Here is the list of 8 midfielders targeted by Barça:
- Marco Verratti
- Joshua Kimmich
- Zubimendi
- Brozovic
- Guido Rodriguez (Betis)
- Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa)
- Marc Bernal (La Masia)
- Marc Casado (La Masia)
