Erling Haaland is envisioning a major turning point in his career to rival Kylian Mbappé.
While European football has long been dominated by the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, a new showdown is looming between Haaland and Mbappé. While the latter seems to be headed to Real Madrid, Haaland, currently under contract with Manchester City until 2027, is seriously considering his future with the Sky Blues.
Mbappé nearing Real Madrid
Kylian Mbappé appears on the brink of leaving Paris Saint-Germain, with his departure expected at the end of the current season. At 25 years old, the former Monaco player is said to have informed the Parisian leadership of his decision, causing frustration for coach Luis Enrique, who has reduced his playing time in Ligue 1 in preparation for his departure. Reports suggest Mbappé has already secretly signed with Real Madrid, with plans for him to be presented at the Bernabéu before Euro 2024.
Haaland aiming to emulate Mbappé
As for Haaland, the Norwegian also expresses admiration for Real Madrid, who have won the Champions League 14 times. Although he had doubts about his future at Manchester City, he now seems willing to consider a move to the Bernabéu, especially in light of Mbappé’s likely signing with Real.
According to Defensa Central, Manchester City’s leadership is aware of Real Madrid’s interest in Haaland, who was initially willing to stay another year at City but could now change his plans. The Norwegian striker holds all of his image rights and aims to secure a contract similar to Mbappé’s. However, Real Madrid has not yet officially taken a stance on this matter. This could mark the end of a budding rivalry, anticipated as the successor to the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry. Only time will tell how this dynamic will evolve.
