Lionel Messi reportedly turned down a massive offer to join Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad Jeddah, citing family reasons.

Anmar Al Haili, the club’s president, revealed that they offered Messi a contract worth over 900 billion FCFA (approximately 1.4 billion euros), but Messi declined because his family preferred relocating to the United States.

“We contacted Messi after his contract with Paris ended. We offered him 1.4 billion euros, but he refused because his family wanted the United States. It’s surprising that he could reject such a huge offer for his family’s sake,” Al Haili disclosed on Saudi channel MBC 1.

Despite being able to persuade his family, Messi chose to respect their wishes and declined the offer. Fans have lauded Messi for prioritizing family over financial gains, praising his integrity and values.

“The proof that Messi doesn’t chase records, but records chase him… This was an opportunity to become the highest-paid player ever, yet he said no. What a man, turning down billions for the sake of millions, what greatness of spirit,” read one comment reflecting public sentiment.
