Former Manchester United manager José Mourinho has made some statements about the career of French footballer Paul Pogba.

Indeed, he highlighted Pogba’s victory in the 2018 World Cup with France as a turning point in their strained relationship at the club.

Explanation by José Mourinho

In an interview with The Telegraph, Mourinho shed light on the deterioration of his relationship with Pogba, stating:

“The season after winning the 2018 World Cup, I think Paul (Pogba) came back different.

The World Cup took him to a dimension where football wasn’t the most important thing for him.”

“It happens to almost everyone at certain points in your career: you lose a bit of the sense of who you are and what you should be,” added José Mourinho.

Strained relationship

Paul Pogba’s arrival at Manchester United in 2016 was seen as a statement signed by Mourinho, but their relationship began to deteriorate over time.

Although they won 3 trophies together in their first season, cracks in their relationship started to show.

Then, in December of the following year, the manager was sacked amid reports of a rift in their relationship.

At the time, Pogba described the situation as “strange.”
