Could Neymar return to the team where he reached the pinnacle of his career?
It’s now been a month since Neymar made his return to Brazil, after a tricky spell in Saudi Arabia, where he hardly played at all. His performances with Santos have so far been satisfactory.
The rumour of another return, this time to FC Barcelona, is back like a sea serpent. When asked about it, Deco chose to take a wait-and-see attitude. “Neymar is a phenomenon who’s been here, done what he’s done, won what he’s won. Sometimes these stories don’t repeat themselves or can, you never know. I don’t think it’s the right time for Barcelona to be thinking about Neymar or for him to be thinking about that,” the Catalan club’s sporting director told TNT Sports.
Deco not closing the door on Neymar’s return to Barça
Speaking ahead of Barça’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg against Benfica, Deco continued: “It’s obvious that Neymar is an important player, and I think that if one day a situation like this arises, the scenario should be good for Neymar and for us. A soccer team has to keep a balance.
More than a year after suffering a serious cruciate ligament and meniscus injury in his left knee during a match between Brazil and Uruguay, Neymar made his return to competitive action on October 21, only to suffer a relapse a few days later. If the former PSG player has been unlucky at times, his somewhat reprehensible lifestyle has not always been unrelated to the numerous physical problems that have punctuated his career.
