PSG’s star, who was far from his best tonight, made a point to speak out after his team’s elimination. It was likely his last European match with PSG. But clearly, Kylian Mbappé disappointed.
The French star completely missed his mark tonight, following an already challenging first leg, receiving a 2/10 in our match ratings. The native of Bondy was expected to perform much better, and he ultimately failed to bring the Champions League trophy to Paris Saint-Germain.
After the match, he still chose to address the media in the mixed zone. “Is this your last Champions League match with PSG?” he was asked. “This season for sure, since we’re out,” he replied, somewhat ironically, also giving a stern look when asked if he would support Real Madrid tomorrow. He continued, “we’re disappointed, of course, for the club, for the fans, but we’re out. We gave everything, not everything was bad, we need to learn from what worked and what didn’t, that’s how it is, but we missed too many things upfront.”
He accepts the criticism
“I don’t know (if BVB was stronger), they were superior in both boxes, everyone will have their analysis, but they came and scored, we didn’t. I don’t like talking about bad luck, when you’re good, it doesn’t hit the post, it goes in, we weren’t good enough. It’s too hard to hope to go to the next round with all these missed chances,” added the Frenchman, before discussing his own situation.
“I tried to help the team as best as I could, it wasn’t enough. I’m the first target, I get all the spotlight when it goes well, I take all the shade when it doesn’t, it’s normal, it’s life, I was the first who had to score tonight now we need to get back to work and go win this French Cup. If we review, it’s not too bad, but we need to go win this French Cup first and then we can make an assessment,” Mbappé explained. There was no announcement regarding his future, as some had hoped. We’ll have to wait a bit longer…
