The Super League project is not yet fully realized. Despite the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union not to grant a monopoly on sports competitions to UEFA and FIFA, nothing is set in stone yet.

Nasser al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and the ECA (European Club Association), has always been one of the staunchest opponents and has addressed FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

On Wednesday, a meeting of the ECA’s board of directors, chaired by Nasser al-Khelaïfi, took place in the Atlético Madrid stadium. This was a way to assert dominance at a club that was once a member of the Super League before retracting its decision.

“The Super League does not exist.”

In remarks reported by AS, Nasser al-Khelaïfi, president of PSG and the ECA, commented on the Super League project: “The door is still open for those clubs not in the ECA. The Super League does not exist. So when they realize it, they are welcome to come back. We played against them in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the best club competition in the world. It’s the best competition, the best system we have. They’re not really happy, but again, they play in it because they know it’s important. They know it’s the main competition. So I hope you’re aware of that. They know the door is always open.”

“I said to Joan Laporta: when will they stop the stupid idea of the Super League?”
“There are a lot of things happening like the Club World Cup. It’s a good tournament for European clubs, not only for those participating, but also for clubs not participating in Europe. So all of this is happening without them (the Super League members). So we won’t stop and we won’t wait.

I mean, the football government continues and we are very happy, proud,” Al-Khelaïfi recounts. “The unity I see within the ECA is incredible. So we are all very proud and we will continue to work on it. And I said to Joan Laporta when I saw him, I asked him, ‘When will they stop the stupid idea of the Super League?’ I hope you will stop it soon. And you know, others will soon too. I’m sure, because it doesn’t make sense.”
