And even though his performance didn’t impress all observers, Luis Enrique continues to stand up for his player.
PSG got lucky! After losing in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against FC Barcelona, Luis Enrique’s men managed to completely turn the tide last Tuesday by crushing the Blaugrana team in their own stadium (4-1), thus securing their spot in the Champions League semi-finals. And Kylian Mbappé, who scored a double in the second leg, didn’t receive unanimous praise for his performance with PSG.
Enrique defends Mbappé
In fact, during the post-match press conference in Barcelona last Tuesday, Luis Enrique defended Kylian Mbappé’s performance, directly responding to journalists: “You all need to review the pressing that Mbappé did. He was the undisputed leader of our team (…) When Kylian does that, we are much better,” stated the PSG coach.

On Saturday, Luis Enrique once again appeared in a press conference, and received the following question about Mbappé: “After Barcelona, you said that Kylian Mbappé had been a leader. Has he sometimes been disconnected from the team before this match?” An inquiry that apparently didn’t sit well with the Spanish PSG coach, who responded bluntly: “What I have seen or not seen stays in the locker room and those are conversations with the players. Everything else is a circus.” That’s clear enough…
