Bad news for Real Madrid in the Alphonso Davies dossier
Alphonso Davies, whose contract with Bayern Munich expires next June, looked set to join Real Madrid for free at the end of the season. However, a turn of events could upset the Spanish club’s plans.
Real Madrid rivals Barcelona and Bayern Munich
While Davies had been tipped to sign for Real Madrid, Barcelona have recently entered the race. Former Bayern coach Hansi Flick, who knows the player well, is said to be the reason for the Catalans’ interest. However, the ambitions of the two Spanish giants could be in jeopardy.
According to German media outlet Sport1, Alphonso Davies could finally extend his contract with Bayern Munich. The player has reportedly revised his salary demands downwards and is in advanced discussions with the Bavarian club’s management for an extension until 2025 or beyond. His recent convincing performances under the tutelage of Vincent Kompany would also support this turnaround.
Off-field incident doesn’t affect his rating
Despite a recent incident in which the 24-year-old Canadian was caught drunk at the wheel, his 56 caps and 15 goals for the national team continue to make him a key figure at Bayern. The club’s confidence in the youngster is undiminished by his behavior, and they appear ready to retain him despite external interest.
Real Madrid will therefore have to wait and hope for another outcome, as Davies’ extension at Bayern Munich looks increasingly likely.
