After a fine end to the 2023/2024 season, Arda Güler was predicted to get more playing time this season. But that’s a long way off…
Times are hard for Madrid. While results are not catastrophic in themselves, with just one defeat in 11 Liga games, the humiliation inflicted by Barcelona has shaken the foundations of the club. Already criticized for the content of his team’s matches, Carlo Ancelotti is one of the men most criticized by public opinion in Madrid, along with Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouameni and even Florentino Pérez… In addition to the way his men play, he is also criticized for his management of youngsters, especially at a time when his Catalan rivals have youngsters barely out of their teens who are major players in the team.
While Endrick’s name is often mentioned as a player who could make a huge contribution to the team if the Italian were to give him a little more playing time, we mustn’t forget Arda Güler. Over the month of October, he played just 35 minutes, while Los Merengues played 3 La Liga games and 2 Champions League matches. He didn’t even start the last two league games, against Celta and Barcelona. A surprising situation, given that at the end of last season, he showed he had the talent to make a difference and contribute to the team, at least off the bench. Especially as Real Madrid seem to lack creative players capable of releasing that last pass up front, qualities the Turk clearly possesses.
A victim of Mbappé’s arrival?
This summer, Real Madrid received several loan offers for the former Fener man, but they were all turned down. According to The Athletic, the staff even believe that he will be more important this season than last. But Carlo Ancelotti and his assistant, Davide, are not yet playing him too much for one reason: with Mbappé and Vinicius up front, the team would be too unbalanced if Arda Güler were added to complete the attacking trio. The team would suffer enormously defensively. There’s also the fact that in midfield, several players are also considered indisputable, such as Bellingham, Valverde and Camavinga.
There’s also the question of his positioning, since while he can play as a right winger or relay player, his true position is none other than number 10, a role that doesn’t exist in Carlo Ancelotti’s system. For the time being, the player is taking his time. Although a number of European clubs are interested – Juventus and Manchester United have been mentioned – the player is quite happy at Madrid and is not necessarily thinking of leaving. But the situation should not drag on for too long…
