The young defender of the Roja risks a heavy sentence for acts committed in 2023
If there’s one player who’s made his mark on Real Madrid’s roster lately, it’s Raul Asencio. The 22-year-old defender has taken advantage of the Merengue center-backs’ injuries to establish himself as a key player for the Spanish capital club. However, a murky case has resurfaced: the youngster is accused of child pornography. The player allegedly shared intimate videos of a minor girl, without her consent, with three other young Real Madrid players. The prosecutor’s office has rejected his request to dismiss the case, and he could face a heavy penalty.
Asencio calm as he discusses his trial
Called up to Spain for the first time in his career, the Real Madrid central defender spoke calmly about the case, before addressing the insults he receives in stadiums regarding it:
“Everyone is very aware of what they’re doing, and I’m very calm about it. In the end, it’s a question of timing, of taking it one day at a time. I noticed this change in pressure during substitutions. I’m someone who enjoys this pressure and is motivated by it. In Madrid, I’m used to feeling this pressure, and it motivates me even more.”
Spain will face the Netherlands in the Nations League quarterfinals during this international break.
