Enrique Cerezo’s big anger towards Thibaut Courtois!
Just hours before the clash between Atlético Madrid and Barça, tensions have risen among Madrid’s management. Enrique Cerezo, president of the Colchoneros, violently attacked Thibaut Courtois after the Belgian goalkeeper’s recent comments on refereeing in the Champions League.
Cerezo angry
Irritated by the Real Madrid goalkeeper’s comments, who denounced the “victimization” attitude of certain clubs, Cerezo didn’t mince his words: “What Courtois needs to do is keep quiet. He should be grateful to have played for Atlético. He needs to behave like he did here: like a gentleman.” A direct dig at the former Colchonero goalkeeper, whose relationship with his former club has deteriorated since his departure for rivals Madrid.
These comments come amid an already tense climate surrounding refereeing. The Madrid club, furious after Julián Álvarez’s penalty against Real Madrid was disallowed in the Champions League, announced it would take legal action. Cerezo even criticized the use of VAR, saying that “this system was supposed to make football fairer, but it’s making it even more unfair.” These accusations add even more tension to a weekend in which Atlético face Barça, while the war of words with Real Madrid continues to rage behind the scenes.
