Real Madrid officially announced earlier this week the signing of Kylian Mbappé, who has committed for five years after leaving PSG on a free transfer.
It marks the end of a long saga and a true “relief,” as stated by the French forward, with Didier Deschamps reacting to Mbappé’s comments that have stirred much discussion in recent days.
It was an open secret, and Real Madrid put an end to the suspense last Monday: Kylian Mbappé has committed for five years in the Spanish capital. After refusing to extend his contract with PSG, the captain of the French national team embarks on a new challenge in Spain. But this club change hasn’t been smooth for Mbappé, who extensively spoke out last Tuesday in a press conference about his delicate departure from PSG.
“A great relief”
“It’s a great relief, I’m very happy. I think it’s easy to see on my face. I played a lot less at the end of the season, and everyone knows why. That’s how it is, you have to adapt when you’re a high-level player. It’s not an excuse for me before this Euro. I’m trying to regain the best form possible, and I want to help the French team and try to bring the trophy home,” Kylian Mbappé stated. These remarks weren’t necessarily well received by PSG’s management. But on his side, Didier Deschamps takes a more pragmatic approach.
“Everyone knew it”
In an interview with Le Parisien, the French national team coach puts things into perspective regarding the Mbappé saga at Real Madrid, given that there was no surprise for several months about the outcome of the situation: “At least, it’s officialized, even though everyone knew it. It’s not an announcement in itself. I was asked, ‘So, internally?’ What do you want it to change? Everyone knew it. It’s just the external aspect, waiting for the moment when it’s official. It is. On the first day when he arrived, he knew his goal very well,” Deschamps concludes. That’s clear.
