The young gem of Real Madrid shone towards the end of the La Liga season. He fully capitalized on his opportunities.
The first season wearing the colors of Real Madrid wasn’t easy for Arda Güler. Between injuries in the first part of the season and fierce competition in Madrid, he struggled to get playing time.
Güler had to wait until January 6th and the 3rd round of the Copa del Rey to make his official debut with Real Madrid, and until January 27th to make his first appearance in La Liga. It was against Las Palmas, and he came close to scoring his first goal.
The following weeks were even more challenging as Güler was physically ready to play but wasn’t much in the coach’s plans due to other players understandably being ahead of him in the hierarchy. He only got 3 minutes against Rayo on February 18th, 1 minute against Celta on March 10th, and 5 minutes against Osasuna the following week.
At that point, there was talk of some impatience from the young prodigy, but his time would come. Real Madrid sealed La Liga definitively in the Clasico on April 21st, and Ancelotti finally gave Güler his first start the following week: 4 starts in the last 6 La Liga matches, resulting in 5 goals scored…
He won’t play in the Champions League, but it doesn’t matter. He’s the first Turk to lift this trophy and he’s already eager for more prominence for the 16th, as he himself wrote on his social networks.
Because yes, Arda clearly has no intention of leaving, despite receiving offers. Real Madrid has received plenty of loan offers for him next season, but there’s no question of it as he’s ready to fight for more playing time in Madrid, even though he’s currently fully focused on the Euros.
As Fabrizio Romano points out, Arda Güler never asked to leave Real Madrid, not even in March when there was a hint of impatience from him due to his limited playing time.
