Benched and already rumored to be leaving Real Madrid, Arda Güler finds his playing time relatively low and it doesn’t seem likely to improve.
Arriving for €28 million, including bonuses, from Fenerbahçe, Arda Güler (19 years old) made waves upon his arrival at Real Madrid. Madrid fans were already envisioning a future rivalry between him and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal (16 years old), but the season didn’t go as planned for the young Turkish midfielder.
Deprived of playing time, he ranks third in the squad for the least minutes played (98), behind David Alaba (50) and Thibaut Courtois (0), both long-term injured players. It’s a worrying situation, especially considering Güler hasn’t played in the last three matches. Despite his minimal time on the pitch, he managed to score his first goal against Celta de Vigo and came close to a superb lob against Osasuna. However, as AS explains, Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t currently see him as part of his plans. His young experience and physicality, which still need development, don’t fit the Merengues’ coach’s vision, as he prefers to trust the veteran midfielders.
Arda Güler’s camp is applying pressure.
The Spanish media adds that he’s unlikely to feature in the remaining matches of the season due to the crucial upcoming fixtures in the Champions League and the looming Clasico, where the top spot will be at stake if Barcelona wins. He might only see his chances increase in the final Liga matches to come. While Carlo Ancelotti believes he’s far from the level of the rest of the team, a potential loan deal remained a probable option for Arda Güler this summer.
However, the player’s entourage doesn’t agree with this assessment. While some Spanish media outlets reported that the player wanted to leave, AS adds that his inner circle denies any discussions about his future and hopes he’ll quickly establish himself at Real Madrid, not elsewhere. Is this a way to pressure Real Madrid into giving him more playing time? In any case, the player is expected to receive loan offers this summer, and Florentino Pérez will need to be convinced to keep him, as he’s under contract until 2029.
