Rio Ferdinand, the Manchester United legend, has predicted the winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or. The former English defender has hailed Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior as the favorite to clinch the prestigious award this year.
The Brazilian forward was instrumental for Real Madrid last season, scoring 24 goals and providing 11 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.
Ferdinand believes Vinicius Junior’s impressive skills on the field make him the most serious contender for the coveted prize. “I don’t think anyone has done anything to suggest they should win the Ballon d’Or ahead of Vini Jr,” Ferdinand said in an interview with Madrid Zone, as reported by Sportskeeda. The former defender praised Vinicius Junior’s crucial role in Real Madrid’s triumphant season, stating, “He has been the most decisive player and one of the main reasons why Real won the Champions League and La Liga.”
Rio Ferdinand also hinted that England’s Jude Bellingham could be a potential competitor if he continues his impressive form and helps England win the Euros. “If Jude keeps scoring and England win the Euros, he will certainly be in contention too,” Ferdinand added.
Vinicius Junior’s outstanding performances have made him a favorite among fans and experts, and despite his setback in the Copa America, there are strong chances he will walk away with the award.
