German international, Antonio Rüdiger, has spoken out about the announcement of his teammate in the national team and at Real Madrid, Toni Kroos.
During a press conference, ahead of a friendly match against Greece on Friday, June 7, 2024, in preparation for the European Championship, the German defender asserted in front of microphones and cameras that he had misjudged Toni Kroos.
“As a footballer, there’s nothing to say. As a person, I have to be honest. I misjudged him when I arrived here, when I was younger. Now, I know him better. He’s a very, very good guy, a family man. He’s a quiet leader who doesn’t talk much but shows the way on the field.”
Regarding Germany’s expectations, Rüdiger called for taking things step by step.
“We need to show humility. We all know what happened in previous tournaments. The journey to get here has been filled with ups and downs. The important thing is to have a very good first match and then see what happens after that.”
When asked what the Mannschaft can take from Real Madrid, the central defender doesn’t hesitate: “The killer instinct.” “Germany and Real Madrid are two different pairs of shoes. Here, we have a good system that adapts to our game, but what we can bring here from Real Madrid is that killer instinct,” he said.
The Berliner’s excellent form this season has earned him recognition as one of the best in the world at his position. But he prefers not to dwell on it too much. “I don’t think about it too much. It changes very quickly. Last year, it was someone else and now it seems to be me, but I don’t think about it,” added the former Chelsea player, who then didn’t hesitate to praise Kroos.
