Arda Güler’s management is starting to cause tension within Real Madrid internally. Some are not at all pleased with Carlo Ancelotti’s handling.
On Monday, several FC Barcelona supporters targeted Arda Güler on social media. They mocked the young Turk, who signed with the Merengues to organize barbecues with his teammates rather than play. The Blaugrana fans seem to harbor resentment towards the 19-year-old footballer, who chose to reject the Culés to join the Madrid rivals during the last summer transfer window.
However, things didn’t go as planned for the former Fenerbahçe player. He quickly found himself in Real Madrid’s infirmary, as he suffered from various physical issues between July and November. Consequently, he missed 106 days of competition and 22 matches across all competitions, according to the specialized website Transfermarkt. This is far from ideal for a young man who is discovering a new club, a new style of football, and a new culture. Eventually, it wasn’t until January 6th that he finally made his debut. It was during the Copa del Rey match against Arandina. Since then, he has made sporadic appearances, playing a total of 7 matches for Real Madrid, with only one start (totaling 112 minutes played this season). As for his statistics, he has scored one goal.
Several members of the club don’t understand Ancelotti’s decisions. It’s tough for the Turk to do much better as he’s left with mere morsels of playing time. Especially since he hasn’t played a single minute since March 16th when he came on against Osasuna. In the meantime, he has participated in two matches with the Turkish national team. However, Carlo Ancelotti doesn’t seem to utilize him at the club, which baffles some within Real Madrid. According to Relevo, Güler’s situation is a topic of debate within the Casa Blanca, causing tension. “A part of the club doesn’t understand the lack of opportunities,” especially considering he has shown promising signs during his rare appearances, as mentioned by the Iberian media outlet.
Among Güler’s supporters is Juni Calafat, Real Madrid’s talent scout. Calafat, who believes strongly in Güler’s abilities, doesn’t comprehend why the manager uses him so sparingly. Other voices within the Madrid stable have also expressed confusion over this situation and the staff’s stance. However, Ancelotti and his team have a plan for the young recruit, aiming to integrate him gradually while respecting the existing hierarchy. Thus, Güler must exercise patience, despite having supporters within the club’s leadership.
One of them told Relevo, “He’s a generational talent. We have no doubts about that.” Yet, the main character himself may have doubts, especially with Real Madrid set to welcome more players during the summer transfer window, intensifying the competition. A loan to gain experience and playing time is not out of the question. However, Güler wants to continue in the Spanish capital, where Carlo Ancelotti has promised him more playing time soon. The manager also mentioned the young man, who evidently seemed downcast after the Clasico victory.
Relevo notes that he stayed away on Sunday when the team celebrated the victory against the Blaugranas. Surely disappointed not to have participated in the showdown, the Turk, who has already shown signs of frustration this season, must cope and try to rise above. It’s not necessarily easy for a young man of his age, who is making efforts to overcome his shyness and integrate into the Madrid group. His recent barbecue, held at his place on Monday with players (Brahim, Valverde) and staff members (physiotherapists), demonstrates his desire to be involved at Real Madrid both on and off the pitch.
