As Carlo Ancelotti’s men head into the Champions League final, and with the Mbappé deal now settled, there are still several unresolved issues at Real Madrid. Everything is going well in Madrid.

The Liga was celebrated appropriately this past weekend, and looming on the horizon is the chance to win a fifteenth Champions League title on June 1st against Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, the Merengues already know that Kylian Mbappé will join them this summer, allowing them to look to the future with legitimately immense optimism. Besides Mbappé, the Madrilenians have also secured, several months ago, the arrival of Endrick, who looks particularly promising.

However, at the same time, there are still several hot issues to manage, and the summer will not be restful for Florentino Pérez, José Angel Sanchez, Juni Calafat, and Carlo Ancelotti. There are three types of sensitive cases: those concerning players currently at the club, those who are targets for the transfer market, and those who are currently loaned out or under the control of the Madrilenians.

Significant decisions need to be made

In the first category, there are many. The futures of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Nacho, and Lucas Vazquez, all at the end of their contracts. For the first two, the trend is towards optimism in the Madrid press this Monday. This is not necessarily the case for Nacho, who is likely to leave this summer. Lucas Vazquez is expected to extend his stay, according to information published across Spain this Monday. As for Joselu, loaned from Espanyol, he is also expected in Madrid next year, as the Merengues will exercise their purchase option of 1.5 million euros. Finally, Lunin, who many predicted would leave following the return of Courtois, is unlikely to leave the club.

As for potential arrivals, that too is unclear. Alphonso Davies seemed to be a priority a few months ago, but Ferland Mendy’s solid performances in major European matches have somewhat cooled the Madrid enthusiasm. Needless to say, splurging on the Canadian is no longer on the agenda. The case of Leny Yoro, for example, mentioned by El Desmarque, is more a bet on the future than an immediate need. However, the Madrilenians know that other big clubs are interested and that they may need to act quickly.

Finally, decisions will also have to be made about left-back Miguel Gutierrez, who has been brilliant at Girona and on whom Real Madrid has a 10 million euro purchase option. Then, Rafa Marin, loaned to Alavés, could have a place on the team in the event of Nacho’s departure, or he could be loaned out for another season. As you can see, the summer is going to be hot at the Bernabéu.
