Toni Kroos was asked to rank 10 players to form his list of the best free-kick takers in history.
It’s a simple exercise that many people attempt: establishing a Top 10 in a given area, while gradually discovering the available options. Therein lies the challenge, and the ranking established by Toni Kroos on the digital media channel 433 even yielded a few surprises.
In this case, the question posed to the German was to rank the best free-kick takers in a Top 10, but with the added bonus of only knowing their names when mentioned by the presenter.
The retired Toni Kroos created a ranking in which Lionel Messi (5th) was better than Cristiano Ronaldo (9th), and Beckham and Juninho occupied second and third place, respectively.
He himself ranked 10th, with the presenter feeling compelled to interject: “You’re so humble!” Zinedine Zidane was ranked 4th, Sneijder 8th, and Ronaldinho 6th.
And ultimately, the last name to emerge was the winner, Brazilian Roberto Carlos. This suited Kroos well, as he believes the former Real Madrid player, “a friend of his,” fully deserves to top his list of the best shooters.
