For some observers in Spain, Real Madrid is favored by the refereeing this season. Everyone is defending their own side with shocking statements.

Will a Real Madrid match take place in Spain between now and the end of the season without protests from both the Real Madrid side and their rivals after every final whistle? This is the question many observers are asking, given the controversies surrounding the refereeing that have reached such an extreme in recent months.

Just yesterday, the post-match analysis following Real Madrid’s qualification against Sociedad (4-4, 5-4 on aggregate) focused mainly on the choices made by Mr. Alberola Rojas, the referee in charge for the match.

First of all, the Sociedad coach didn’t hide his feelings, far from it, even going so far as to make some rather clear innuendos. “We were eliminated with the help of a third party who was asked to be neutral. Real Madrid doesn’t need that kind of help because they’re a great team,” declared Imanol Alguacil, well aware of what he was saying.

And unsurprisingly, the day after this semi-final, which went in favor of Ancelotti’s men, other voices were raised to protest. One of them came directly from Mundo Deportivo, a leading Catalan media outlet known for leaving no stone unturned when it comes to discussing their great rivals, Madrid.

Angel Perez, who works for MD, insisted on speaking on camera to respond to Alguacil’s comments, not without irony: “I’m sorry, Imanol, but I don’t agree. Real Madrid needs this help. It has been made clear once again that without the help of the referees, they cannot achieve sporting success, at least not this year,” the journalist gestured.

“Without the help of the referees, Real Madrid wouldn’t be in the Copa del Rey final today. Their journey to the final of this Copa del Rey is seriously tainted,” he continued, recalling “the match against Celta in the round of 16, with a penalty from Lunin that wasn’t awarded and from which Mbappé scored.”
