LaLiga has announced the schedules for the opening fixtures of the 2024-25 season.
Just days after unveiling the LaLiga 24/25 calendar, the competition overseen by Javier Tebas has revealed the dates and times for the first matchday, set to be played on the weekend of August 17th and 18th.
The season kicks off on Thursday, August 15th at San Mamés, with Athletic Bilbao facing Getafe at 7:00 PM. This first matchday spans five days, culminating with Atlético Madrid visiting Villarreal on Monday, August 19th, at 9:30 PM.
This is an unusual schedule for weekend matches, influenced by expected high temperatures during that time of year on the island. LaLiga has also noted that schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
Real Madrid will play away at Mallorca on August 18th.
Real Madrid, already aware they would be heading to Mallorca and the Son Moix stadium for the opening matchday, now know they will play on Sunday, August 18th, at 9:30 PM.
New signing Kylian Mbappé will thus make his debut in Spanish football on this date. However, it won’t be his first appearance in white, as it’s expected Carlo Ancelotti will start him in the UEFA Super Cup final against Atalanta on August 14th.
