Gérard Piqué, the former FC Barcelona defender, has also joined the debate on referee decisions during the latest Clasico.

Real Madrid and Barcelona clashed in the return match of the Liga championship at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

The Merengues emerged victorious with a scoreline of 3-2, now holding an 11-point lead over their rivals.

The Madrid team will undoubtedly clinch the championship this season if they maintain their current form.

The Clasico on Sunday saw some highly controversial referee decisions, sparking outcry from the Catalans. A penalty awarded to Real Madrid and a contentious play have led Barcelona to cry foul. A shot from Lamine Yamal was cleared off the goal line during the match, with Barcelona claiming the ball had crossed it.

With no Goal Line Technology available in the Spanish league, referees had to rely on camera angles to make decisions regarding goal-line incidents.

According to Gérard Piqué, in the absence of Goal Line Technology, goalposts should be equipped with cameras to accurately track the movement of the ball.

“The penalty is incorrect. Curbasí did nothing, he stood still. Vazquez adjusted the position of his right foot to collide with Curbasí.

Regarding the goal, there should be at least one camera on the crossbar. I feel like it went in, but I understand they can’t confirm it,” stated the former player.
