A storm is brewing over FIFA. The global football governing body may no longer host the new Club World Cup, which brings together the biggest European clubs.

Starting from 2025, a new competition will emerge in the summer, featuring 32 of the world’s top teams, including twelve European clubs, battling it out over the course of a month.

As this competition takes shape, a serious threat looms, as reported by the British newspaper The Sun: legal action could be taken to postpone the tournament.

The Premier League and La Liga, among others, express their discontent with this new competition, fearing it will further overload players’ schedules.

This opposition is supported by the players’ union, the PFA. “Football is killing its own product. Those who govern the game must listen. If they don’t, then as unions, we have a responsibility to act on behalf of the players, and the legal route is the next step,” said Maheta Molango, president of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

FIFA must now respond to this mounting legal pressure.

As a reminder, the inaugural edition of the new FIFA Club World Cup will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States.

Considering the selection principles of participating clubs and the results of continental competitions, the following clubs are already assured of participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
