Newly appointed England coach, Thomas Tuchel isn’t afraid to shake up his leaders.
Ahead of tonight’s match against Latvia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Thomas Tuchel spoke to the press, and Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham was one of the topics discussed.
A few days ago, the Madrid player stood out by delivering a sumptuous assist, but for his coach, the 21-year-old, who has already established himself as one of the team’s leaders, can still do better by playing more intelligently.
“Bellingham is always willing to give his all, but we need him, within a structure, to be able to better conserve his energy and continue to maintain the same impact, or even have an even greater one,” Thomas Tuchel began.
An interesting point made by the German, as this is also what the Briton has sometimes been criticized for, namely making unnecessary efforts. “We need to make sure that the leaders, the key players including Bellingham, continue in the same vein, that they always play at the same pace and help each other. And perhaps that means playing with a little more discipline to save energy for decisive moments,” concluded Tuchel.
Obviously, this was more advice than a reprimand from the coach, who was full of praise for the Madrid player, stating that it’s a pleasure to work with him and that he’s a team player par excellence. “He’s always capable of making the difference,” he added.
