A Saudi Pro League official has stated that they have not contacted Vinicius Junior about signing him from Real Madrid.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Executives from the Saudi top flight are understood to have met with the 24-year-old in 2023 to discuss a move that could see him sign a potential €1 billion (£840 million) contract. He continues to be linked with a move to the Middle East, although Madrid hope to convince him to sign a new contract.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Reports indicate that SPL officials are acting on behalf of the clubs to bring in the two-time Champions League winner, but the division’s general manager of marketing communications, Mohammed Basrawi, claims otherwise.
WHAT BASRAWI SAID
Asked about the possibility of signing the Brazilian, he told Marca: “It’s a sensitive subject. Honestly, as a league, we don’t get involved in the signings that each club intends to make. Would we want him here? Of course we would, but we, as a league, don’t choose the signings; they depend on each club.”
WHAT FUTURE FOR VINICIUS?
Vinicius remains tied to Madrid until the summer of 2027 and hopes to finish the season with La Liga and Champions League winner’s medals before considering a move to another club.
