Vinicius mocks Atletico

After a low-key match in which he missed a penalty that could have allowed Real Madrid to qualify without going to extra time and a penalty shootout, Vinicius once again found himself at the center of a heated argument with the fans.

Real Madrid qualified for the Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday. It all went to penalties, a session marked by Julian Alvarez’s penalty being disallowed for touching the ball with both feet. A very intense match that also gave rise to a new controversy surrounding Vinicius Junior.

“We have 15 Champions League titles, you have zero”
After completely missing a penalty, the Brazilian was substituted in the 115th minute. The Metropolitano crowd then mocked the player with chants of “Vinicius, beach ball.” The Brazilian turned toward the stands and made a few gestures with his hands, meaning, “We have 15 Champions League titles, you have zero.”

After the final whistle, the striker returned to the stands, this time apparently to confront a particular supporter. He then left his shirt on the pitch and showed off the crest. He then posted the following tweet on his social media: “There’s only one Madrid! But everyone already knows that.”

But the Brazilian didn’t stop there. Half an hour later, he posted another message accompanied by a picture of himself touching the Champions League logo and the phrase: “How do you feel?”

This exchange of mockery between the Real Madrid player and the Colchoneros fans didn’t go down well with some observers. Journalist Juanma Castaño, for example, declared: “He’s a great footballer, one of the best in the world, but he will never be admired by anyone who isn’t a Real Madrid fan. That’s the problem. On every pitch, in every match, he does or says something. And today, he was very bad,” he said on Cadena Cope.
