Wayne Rooney recently voiced his support for a significant change in the English league, the Premier League.
Indeed, long criticized, VAR could be scrapped in the Premier League starting from the 2024-2025 season.
To decide on whether or not to change the rules of refereeing in the Premier League for the upcoming season, English clubs are invited to a vote scheduled for June 6, 2024.
Following this vote, the future of VAR, which has often been criticized, will be determined.
Invited to comment on the matter, Wayne Rooney has made his position clear, expressing his agreement with the removal of VAR in the Premier League.
He notably stated his dislike for VAR and would be enthusiastic about its discontinuation. “I don’t really like VAR. If it’s there and it’s getting all the decisions right, then fair enough. But it’s taken all the enjoyment out of the game. Having to wait to celebrate a goal, and then still getting decisions wrong, I’d much rather see it without it,” he said.
For several years now, there have been criticisms that the inclusion of VAR has taken away the joy of football.
According to critics, VAR has been the root of many incorrect decisions, also diminishing the role of the referee.
