The dispute between Djamel Belmadi, former coach of the Algerian national team, and the Algerian Football Federation appears to be nearing resolution. After several months of tensions and disagreements, recent developments suggest a possible amicable agreement.
Following his abrupt departure in January, following Algeria’s early elimination from the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, Belmadi has stepped back from the football scene. His contract, originally set until 2026, was at the center of the dispute with the Algerian federation, delaying any prospect of him signing with another team.
According to reports, Djamel Belmadi, currently on vacation in Mostaganem, his hometown, seems determined to close this chapter with the Algerian FA and move on to new horizons next season. The Algerian coach aims to reach a mutually agreed settlement with the federation regarding the terms of contract termination.
Belmadi prefers a negotiated settlement and aims to avoid a dispute before FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, having already rejected an initial offer from the Algerian FA. His goal is clear: to swiftly resolve this dispute and focus on new sporting challenges.
Despite tensions with the Algerian FA, Djamel Belmadi remains highly sought after internationally, particularly in Qatar. Thanks to his successes with Al-Duhail and the Qatari national team, several Qatari clubs have shown keen interest for the 2024-2025 season.
However, his return to the field hinges closely on resolving his disagreements with the Algerian FA. A quick resolution could pave the way for new opportunities away from the Algerian national team. Belmadi, while capable of asserting his rights with FIFA, aims to avoid any harm to the national team. Hence, he prioritizes an amicable solution, even at the cost of significant financial loss in compensation.
