Mike Maignan, the French international, is now among the top goalkeepers in Europe’s five major leagues.
For the past 4 or 5 seasons, the Frenchman has been shining at the highest level as a goalkeeper.
The former Parisian had the daunting task of filling Gigi Donnarumma’s shoes at AC Milan since his arrival in 2021.
He was, in fact, one of the key players in AC Milan’s Serie A triumph in his debut season with the Rossoneri.
Maignan also had the privilege of taking over from the legendary Hugo Lloris in the French national team’s goalkeeping position after Lloris retired following the 2022 World Cup.
Although he was trained at PSG, it was at Lille OSC where the French international truly made a name for himself before catching the eye of AC Milan recruiters. At Lille, the current French team’s starting goalkeeper worked with Lucas Chevalier during training, who was his substitute at the time.
Chevalier has since become Lille OSC’s starting goalkeeper and appreciates what his former teammate taught him personally.
“Working with Mike Maignan for two years was the best possible training when I arrived at a professional club. The connection we had came naturally. He could have easily ignored the young up-and-comer, but everything went very well in the end. We still keep in touch. There are days when he doesn’t say hello and goes straight to the subject he wants to talk to me about. He cares about me,” said Lucas Chevalier, clearly admiring.
