Xabi Alonso, the coach of Bayer Leverkusen, has a name in mind for the ultimate player he dreams of having on his team to make an impact.
According to him, this player could continue to perform at a high level even after the age of 50 because of his natural talent and lack of need for running.
The young coach has set his sights on Argentine international Lionel Messi and states that he is a player with tremendous experience.
Alonso is particularly interested in Messi’s new role, playing slightly deeper on the field, and highlights his exceptional passing skills.
“A player I would love to have on my team? I would choose Messi. He has great experience in the Champions League. Messi now plays in midfield and relies more on his passing. He provides decisive passes and can also score and dribble.
I need such a player on my team. Messi remains Messi even at this age and after 10 years because he is naturally talented,” said the former Liverpool midfielder.
The same question was posed to Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal and a friend of Alonso, and he also chose Messi as the player he dreams of having on his team.
For the record, Xabi Alonso was frequently an opponent of Messi when he was still active and playing for Real Madrid.
During the Clasicos, the Basque coach always remembers the Argentine’s performances that troubled the Madrid team, which is currently managed by José Mourinho.
