Xavi Hernandez loves Barça deep down. Departing in a rather inconvenient manner from his coaching position, the Blaugrana legend has made a decision that will allow the Catalans to breathe financially.

While awaiting the official appointment of Hansi Flick as the new FC Barcelona coach, news of Xavi’s departure and final farewells continue to surface. This goodbye has unfolded in three acts since last January when he himself assured that he would leave the Blaugrana team at the end of the season.

Xavi relinquishes a hefty sum

Ultimately, after being convinced to stay in Barcelona, it was the board of directors who didn’t trust him and ordered his departure to make way for Hansi Flick, with whom Barça hopes to experience a more successful and less turbulent period than that lived with the Catalan.

Although he ended up leaving Barça in quite a shocking manner, with up to two changes of decision, Xavi was not affected by the situation and took into account the club’s weakened economy. Santi Ovalle reports from Barcelona that in his departure agreement, Xavi has waived his entire salary, including that of the next year. It should be noted that Xavi had signed his contract until the end of 2025, but after his dismissal, he will also waive this part of the agreement. With this decision, Barça will save a significant amount of money, even though it will have to pay the entire coaching staff.

Furthermore, shortly after, club officials announced the arrival of Hansi Flick to the bench. The German is already in Barcelona ready to be presented this Wednesday. It is official as of a few minutes ago, Hansi Flick replaces Xavi to become the coach of Barça starting from next season. Before his arrival, it was necessary to manage the departure of Xavi and his staff, which was quickly resolved, to then focus on the signing of the contract of the former coach of Bayern Munich and the Mannschaft.

Hansi Flick, the new era begins

Hansi Flick landed in Barcelona today and is expected to meet with Joan Laporta and Deco to begin preparing for next season and the transfer market. His presentation should take place in the coming days. Given Barça’s financial difficulties, it was logical that the club would not be too lavish regarding Hansi Flick’s salary.

According to AS, the German is expected to earn an annual salary of three million, which may seem rather low, but this will be accompanied by quite attractive win bonuses. Indeed, in the event of a Champions League victory, Hansi Flick will receive an additional one million euros on top of his salary and 750,000 euros in case of a league title win. This system already existed with Xavi, even though the Spaniard’s salary was double what the German is expected to earn.

The Blaugrana news also goes through La Masia this Tuesday, where Héctor Fort has already been renewed until 2026. It is actually a renewal until 2029, announced for two years due to a legal issue. The player has turned down appeals from several Champions League clubs, and his new contract includes an “anti-sheikh” clause to protect him. Moreover, Héctor Fort has already trained today with Barça B to assist the team in their playoff.
