Before playing for Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane first played for the Italian team Juventus from 1996 to 2001.
It was Juventus that the French legend left in 2001 to join the Madrid club for a fee of 75 million euros.
This sum was considered an absolute record for a player transfer at that time.
Before his arrival at Juventus, Zidane signed a contract with a special clause that he still remembers decades later.
The player was supposed to receive a Ferrari car from the club if he managed to win the Ballon d’Or. Zidane was crowned in 1998 and received his promised Ferrari, which he has kept until today.
“In the contract I signed with Juventus in 1996, there was a special clause. The clause was that Juventus would provide me with a Ferrari if I won the Ballon d’Or during the five years of the contract.
After winning the award in 1998, Juventus kept their promise and the red car arrived. This famous Ferrari has been in my parents’ garage in Marseille for over twenty years.
I haven’t used it much, and I’ve never let it go. Occasionally, my parents look at it and fondly remember the significance of this prestigious trophy their son won. Even I, from time to time, when I return to France to see my family, go to the garage to take a look.
Why don’t I sell it? I know very well that the car won’t lose its value even without moving, but for me, it’s worth much more than any money.
It’s a memory… I left a part of myself there in Italy that will always remain in my heart,” recounted the former Real Madrid coach.
