What seemed like simple fatigue after a match tragically turned into a nightmare. A 48-year-old amateur player was found dead in his vehicle the day after a game played in Cannes. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances of his death.
According to Nice-Matin, on Sunday, February 1, a grim discovery was made in the parking lot of the Muriers stadium in La Bocca. Law enforcement found the man’s body inside his car.
The alarm was raised by his wife, worried because he hadn’t returned home after a football match between two amateur clubs from Antibes, played the night before. The search quickly led the police to the Cannes stadium.
The victim was part of the Hospitaliers d’Antibes team and had just played against the Municipaux de Cannes. According to one of his teammates, there were no signs that such a tragedy would occur. “He was tired, but he hadn’t played in a while. And we’re not twenty anymore…” he shared.
An unexpected death
This sentiment was echoed by other players present that night. “Everything was fine. He was tired like all of us after the match,” assured another team member. No signs of distress or concerning behavior were noticed after the game.
The man was ultimately found the next morning, still in his vehicle parked at the stadium.
An investigation is underway to clarify the causes of death. According to a police source, the possibility of a natural death is currently being favored.
