FC Barcelona are in a downward spiral ahead of the end of the first half of the season. Xavi Hernandez and Co have been putting in a string of lacklustre results, and this is causing even more concern among the Blaugrana fans. But according to AS, the Catalan club’s coach is not entirely satisfied with Joao Félix.
Barça have endured a frustrating campaign so far this season. Fourth in LaLiga behind Real Madrid, Girona and Atletico Madrid, the club coached by Xavi Hernandez have not exactly done their fans proud.
While Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti have managed to deal with their injured players brilliantly, Barça have found things more complicated for Xavi Hernandez. Added to this was the decline in form of certain key players such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha. New recruits such as Gündogan and Oriol Romeu have yet to fully satisfy Xavi Hernandez, whose future is constantly being called into question.
Xavi disappointed with Joao Félix at Barça
Having arrived on loan from Atlético Madrid on the last day of the summer transfer window, João Félix promised much, but he is now in a delicate situation at Barça, even if the club’s fans love him dearly.
According to Spanish newspaper As on Monday, the coaching staff led by Xavi Hernández are disappointed with the Portuguese international’s performance in recent weeks. So much so that they are seriously considering leaving him on the bench for next Thursday’s trip to Las Palmas, the first match of the 2024 calendar year.
The same media outlet adds that, given this scenario, the possibility of the board of directors headed by Joan Laporta making a financial effort to keep him beyond the end of this season is becoming increasingly remote. Joao Félix, who alienated Atletico Madrid fans during and after Barça’s victory in which he scored a goal and taunted fans of Diego Simeone’s side, is unlikely to agree to his return again. While Barça are unlikely to exercise their option to buy the Benfica-trained winger, Joao Felix is unlikely to stay at Atletico Madrid either. The Portuguese winger’s future is therefore uncertain, and he still has the second half of the season ahead of him to turn things around and show Barça’s directors that he could go down in the club’s history.
