The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced in an official statement that the city of Marrakech, Morocco, will once again host the prestigious CAF Awards ceremony. For the second consecutive year, the ochre city will provide the setting for this major African football event, with the date and time to be announced later by CAF.
Last year’s edition was particularly memorable, with Victor Osimhen being crowned African Player of the Year in the men’s category. The Nigerian striker, who has shone both with his club and national team, solidified his status as a rising star in global football. On the women’s side, Asisat Oshoala, also from Nigeria, stood out by winning her fifth African Player of the Year title. This achievement in the women’s category highlights her enduring influence on African women’s football and her commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance.
The 2024 edition of the CAF Awards will showcase a wide range of categories. The prestigious African Player of the Year award will be presented for both men and women, honoring those who have stood out the most during the season. Other notable distinctions, such as the Best Young Player award, will highlight the emerging talents who represent the future of African football. The Coach of the Year award, which acknowledges strategy, influence, and achievements by African coaches, will also be in the spotlight. In addition, the best teams, both at club and national level, will be recognized for their collective performances.
This 2024 edition will take place on December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco, a city that, for the second consecutive year, is gearing up to host this key event in African football. With its historic setting and vibrant atmosphere, Marrakech offers the perfect backdrop to celebrate the achievements of the continent’s football figures. This event is not only a celebration of sporting accomplishments but also a showcase of the excellence and resilience of African football, which continues to grow and establish itself among the world’s top competitions.
The 2023 edition was marked by the victory of Lamine Camara, a promising young Senegalese talent, who won the Best Young Player award. Currently making strides as a midfielder for AS Monaco, Camara is one of the many young talents to watch and could very well be a key figure at the 2024 ceremony. His triumph, along with those of other winners, highlights the richness and diversity of African football, capable of producing world-class talent across all areas of the game.
Following a 2023 edition where Senegal was represented solely by Lamine Camara, crowned the continent’s Best Young Player, the nation hopes to shine even more in 2024. With Camara now rising as a midfielder at Monaco, he too is expected to take center stage once again at the upcoming ceremony.
