Aliou Cissé, the former coach of the Lions of Teranga, provided an intensive day of learning for the youth at the Paris Saint-Germain Academy in Senegal.

Before achieving remarkable success as the national team coach, Aliou Cissé first had a career as a professional footballer. Trained at Lille, the former Lions of Teranga captain spent much of his modest playing career in France, becoming an inspiration for young players in his home country who dream of one day playing in Europe.

During an event hosted by the PSG Academy Senegal, in collaboration with YASSIR Premium, the former Parisian midfielder took time to share insights into his journey with the club. He emphasized that while success is never guaranteed, resilience and strong determination can set one apart.

Aliou Cissé admits, "They reached out to me, and I couldn’t say no."

“Football demands a great deal of hard work and sacrifice. Between the ages of 13 and 18, I had to give up part of my youth because I chose to dedicate myself entirely to the game. What a typical 14-year-old was doing, I couldn’t afford to do. I was in my room, preparing for my career. Whatever you desire, you can achieve…,” he advised.

“Football doesn’t tolerate distractions,” he added. “When PSG and YASSIR reached out to invite me to spend an afternoon with these young players, I couldn’t turn it down. Why? Because, first of all, I love kids, and secondly, PSG is my club. If people know Aliou Cissé, it’s thanks to PSG, a truly great club,” explained the 2021 African champion.

Aliou Cissé also praised the PSG Academy’s dedicated efforts in recruiting and training children from across Senegal, providing them with an environment that nurtures their talent. However, he noted that not all Academy players will go on to become professional footballers.
