Jose Mourinho, the new manager of FC Fenerbahce, has given his prediction for the ongoing Copa America tournament.
According to the Portuguese coach, Argentina is the favorite to win the tournament, largely due to the presence of Lionel Messi.
“It’s a tough competition where all teams fight hard,” Mourinho stated. “But I think Argentina has a major advantage with Messi. This might be his last tournament, so he will be determined to win it.”
“I envision a final between Argentina and Brazil, with Messi lifting the trophy once again.”
Argentina currently leads Group A in the Copa America, following their 2-0 victory over Canada and a 1-1 draw between Chile and Peru.
Brazil, another strong contender, will make their tournament debut on June 25th.
The Argentine squad boasts a mix of experienced players like Messi and Di Maria, alongside promising young talents such as 19-year-old Valentin Carboni, who plays for the Italian club Monza. Carboni has already received praise from Lionel Messi himself.
“I think he has a great present and a great future,” the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner said. “We need to make the most of him, as with all the young players coming through.”
Brazil, like Argentina, has included young players in their Copa America squad, including 17-year-old Endrick, who will soon join Real Madrid. However, they will be without Neymar due to injury. In his absence, Brazilian coach Dorival Júnior will rely on Vinicius and Rodrygo.
Despite Mourinho’s prediction, it’s important to note that the Copa America is a competition where every team has a chance of victory. Football can often be full of surprises. The true successor to Argentina, the current title holders, will only be known at the end of the tournament.
