Barça’s nugget, Pedri, has opened up to streamer Ibai about the current state of his football. In a lengthy exchange, the Spanish player clarified a number of points and, above all, spoke about his dream eleven, which includes two of the biggest names in Real Madrid’s history, notably Cristiano Ronaldo.
Barcelona No8 Pedri Gonzalez opened up on Tuesday. In what represents his first media appearance of 2024, the Catalan club’s attacking midfielder (120 games for 17 goals since 2020) made a number of revelations and set the record straight. Well before revealing his legendary eleven with the Real Madrid players, Pedri spoke his truths about his current situation. While Barça are unsure whether their nugget will be able to take part in the Spanish Supercup due to a new muscle problem, he has not been reassuring about his return to competitive action.
“I don’t have a return date“
Via the Twitch channel of the famous Spanish content creator Ibai Llanos Garatea, known by his pseudonym Ibai, Pedri gave no indication of his return to the forefront. The man who dazzled Barça and Spain between 2020 and the end of 2022 is, however, rubbing shoulders with his team-mates in training.
“I’ve had a difficult time with my injuries. The daily routine that goes from the group to training alone… How could I forget? It’s complicated mentally because everyone talks about you so much… I don’t know when I’ll be back. I don’t have a return date,” said Pedri Gonzalez.
Pedri blasts rumours about his lifestyle
While the Spanish press and the Catalan media evoke several hypotheses on the difficult situation of Xavi Hernandez’s midfield, he denounced “lies”. Pedri particularly targeted well-known Catalan Gerard Moreno, who shares Barça news on his much-followed social media accounts. “I’ve been annoyed by a lot of things the media have said about me and my injury…. Gerard Romero said I was scared to play and that I shot with my right foot and told Xavi. That’s a lie,” said the Spain international (18 caps since 2021).
“It hurts me when people say that my lifestyle is the cause of my injuries. I’m a person who doesn’t go out, I don’t like parties or staying up late, and I like training. I just want to play football.“
Pedri’s legendary XI
Still talking to Ibai, Pedri unveiled his legendary eleven. With nine Barça players (past and present) and two former Real Madrid players, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo, the young midfielder has done what many Catalans dare not openly admit: not allow themselves to be influenced by the rivalry with Madrid.
So, in goal, it is Marc-André Ter Stegen who is guarding the goalposts in Pedri’s fantastic eleven. Having made 394 appearances for Barça since 2014, the German goalkeeper is undeniably one of the best in current and all-time history. In defence, it is the quartet, Gerard Piqué, Sergio Ramos, Jordi Alba and Dani Alves who have so far made their mark on the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder.
In midfield, Pedri has lined up a 100% Catalan trio with Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and current Barça coach Xavi Hernandez. Finally, the attacking line-up unsurprisingly features Neymar Junior, Lionel Messi and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who many Catalans do not consider to be the greatest goalscorer of all time despite currently holding that record.
It has to be said that Pedri is a class act both on and off the pitch. For him, it is out of the question to let fanaticism get the better of the truth, even when it comes to talking about the great rival club Barça. In fact, he expressed his admiration for Real Madrid’s current top scorer in La Liga, summer signing Jude Bellingham. “He surprised me a lot. He’s at a point where every shot he takes ends in a goal.” Simply class, that Pedri.
