Twenty-four hours after the call made by Serhou Guirassy, the star striker of the Guinea national team, the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) responded through an official statement.
On Tuesday, the day after Guinea’s defeat to Tanzania (1-0), which jeopardized their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations – while awaiting the decision from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the appeal filed against the Taifa Stars – Guirassy criticized the management of the Federation, although he did not explicitly name it.
The Borussia Dortmund number 9 specifically pointed out the leaders, particularly president Bouba Sampil, accusing them of poor organization, further exacerbated by the need to play “home” matches on foreign soil due to the lack of properly equipped stadiums in Guinea. This issue had already been raised by other players, such as Ilaix Moriba.
In its response, the FGF confirmed the filing of the appeal with CAF regarding the eligibility of a Tanzanian player. Additionally, the federation took the opportunity to send a message of support to Guirassy, assuring that efforts are underway to bring the country’s main sports infrastructure in line with international standards.
The federation reassures Guirassy :
“The Guinean Football Federation will stand alongside the Government in any initiative aimed at accelerating the renovation and approval program for the General Lansana Conté Stadium in Nongo and the 28th September Stadium (in Conakry, ed.)” as stated in the official note.
As a reminder, at the end of February, following the Africa Cup of Nations, Guinea hosted a Moroccan delegation consisting of the advisor to the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and an engineer from the Moroccan National Public Equipment Agency. The purpose of this visit was to gather information for the renovation of the General Lansana Conté Stadium (SGLC).
This collaboration was part of a partnership between the two federations, with the aim of delivering new stadiums before the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, it seems that this project has faced significant delays, jeopardizing the original timelines.
