The head coach of Mauritania’s national team, Amir Abdou, has finally broken his silence regarding rumors of his imminent departure. The former Comoros coach confirmed in an interview that he remains fully committed to leading the Mauritanian team.
“I want to clear up any confusion following recent media speculation. I reaffirm my commitment and determination to the Mauritanian national team,” he stated.
The 52-year-old coach emphasizes his strong commitment to securing his team’s qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“As a coach, my focus remains on our qualification campaign for the next AFCON. Together with my staff, we are doing everything possible to achieve this goal, which we believe in wholeheartedly,” he stated.
Amir Abdou also confirms that he retains the confidence of his professional circle and firmly denies rumors suggesting a possible dismissal.
“Various reports are circulating about me, particularly regarding a potential dismissal or a move to another project. While it’s true I’ve received offers, I’d like to remind everyone that I am still under contract with the Mauritanian Federation,” he clarified.
“Fulfilling responsibilities with professionalism.”
Despite having opportunities elsewhere, the Comorian-born coach remains determined to complete his mission with the Mauritanian team, which still has two crucial matches ahead to keep its hopes alive for AFCON 2025 qualification.
Currently in a tough spot, sitting in fourth and last place in Group C of the qualifiers, Mauritania still has a chance to turn things around if it can secure victories in its final two matches against Botswana and Cape Verde in November.
To this end, Amir Abdou remains fully motivated and emphasizes his commitment to fulfilling his responsibilities with professionalism.
“I will continue to carry out my duties with professionalism in the tasks entrusted to me,” concluded the Franco-Comorian coach.
