As the trial concerning his kidnapping in March 2022 begins this Tuesday in Paris, new details shed light on the complex relationship Paul Pogba maintained with his close circle, some of whom are implicated in the case.
In recent years, the career of the French international has taken an unexpected turn. Once a global football prodigy, Pogba has faced difficult times marked by injuries, a doping suspension recently reduced, and heavy legal issues. Among them is the kidnapping incident in March 2022, where two masked men extorted €13 million from him. The trial, held at the Paris criminal court, involves six suspects, including his own brother, Mathias, accused of playing a central role.
Paul Pogba’s Boundless Generosity
Beyond his legal troubles, Paul Pogba is known for his generosity toward those around him. According to information revealed by L’Équipe, the player, deeply attached to his roots in the Paris suburbs, never hesitated to provide financial support to friends and family. From spontaneously gifting €5,000 to €10,000 annually to his friends, to remarkable gestures such as €40,000 for a friend who bought a house for his mother or €5,000 for a vehicle in Réunion, Pogba consistently responded to requests without expecting anything in return.
His generosity extended to even larger sums: €150,000 to help a friend open a fast-food restaurant, €100,000 as a joint birthday gift for his brothers Mathias and Florentin, and financial assistance to compensate Florentin for a real estate scam. This attitude, driven by his inability to say no, is a defining trait Pogba explained during a hearing:
“I wanted to help them. I grew up with them. It made me happy, it came from the heart. I asked for nothing, expected nothing. I did it so they could move forward in life and develop their own projects.”
However, this generosity sometimes strained his relationships, particularly with Mathias, whose incessant demands reportedly cooled their rapport.
A Tense Week Ahead
Although Paul Pogba is not expected to appear in court this week, further revelations may still arise during the trial. This saga, both legal and deeply personal, continues to unfold.
