We won’t be seeing any new signings in the next Real Madrid mercato! This week’s news from Los Merengues is hard to digest: David Alaba is unlikely to play again this season. He will not be replaced on a temporary basis.
The Austrian player, who came off injured in the 4-1 win over Villarreal, is suffering from a rupture of the cruciate ligaments in his left knee. Real Madrid released a statement on Tuesday evening concerning the serious injury sustained by the Austrian international during the 4-1 win over Villarreal.
No new signings for Real Madrid…
The club has announced that David Alaba has undergone successful surgery for a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, under the supervision of Real Madrid’s medical services. The player will begin his recovery process in the coming days.
It should be noted that his former club also want to help him through this difficult period. Bayern Munich have expressed their willingness to provide their former player (from 2010 to 2021) with a top-quality doctor to carry out the operation on the 31-year-old defender.
Uli Hoeneß, former chairman and current member of the Bayern Munich board, told Servus TV: “I tried to contact him today, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to. We at FC Bayern will see to it that he is operated on in Innsbruck by a doctor we have great confidence in.
The injury is a major blow for Los Merengues, who have already suffered a number of setbacks this season. However, despite Alaba’s prolonged unavailability, there will be no reinforcements at Real Madrid this summer.
At least that’s what Marca is saying. The famous daily reports that Real Madrid have no plans to replace David Alaba numerically, even though his absence considerably reduces the club’s options.
Interesting leads, but not even for the Real Madrid mercato
Carlo Ancelotti will therefore have to make do with his current squad, and could possibly put his faith in Aurélien Tchouaméni in central defence from time to time. The former Bordeaux player, with his excellent one-on-one skills, is being seriously considered, as are a number of youngsters from the youth academy. The Mister will have to be resourceful.
Real Madrid could, however, find something good in the market. One of the first options the Spanish club considered was Giorgio Scalvini, a 20-year-old Italian player currently plying his trade with Atalanta Bergamo and attracting interest from clubs such as PSG and Bayern Munich. According to AS, a bid of at least €50 million would have been required to recruit him from Madrid.
Another player who could have followed in Cristiano Ronaldo’s footsteps, but at an intermediate stage, was Sporting CP’s young central defender Inacio (22), according to Spanish media outlet AS. He could have interested Real Madrid as a replacement for the Austrian defender. Although keen to play for Madrid, convincing Cristiano Ronaldo’s former club to release Inacio would have required an investment of at least €60 million.
A more expensive option for Real Madrid was Antonio Silva, a Portuguese international who plays for Benfica Lisbon. At 20, he was a young option, but his release clause, according to AS, was €100 million, making his transfer to the Spanish club more complex. Nevertheless, he remained one of the priorities of Real Madrid’s sporting directorate.
Another central defensive option revealed by AS concerned William Pacho, the Ecuadorian international currently with Eintracht Frankfurt. He was seen as a possible replacement for the injured defender in the centre of Madrid’s defence. This was the cheapest option, as Pacho’s services would have cost €40 million.
Marvel was also mentioned as one of the club’s young players. However, the Academy defender suffered a muscle injury that kept him out of the team for 4 months.
