On Sunday, November 3rd, a tragic incident occurred during a football match in Peru between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca.

José Hugo de la Cruz Meza, a defender for the team, was struck by lightning and succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Goalkeeper Juan Choca was also severely injured, suffering from serious burns, and is currently in critical condition.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the incident took place around 4 p.m. at the Coto Coto Stadium in Chicha, as players were leaving the field after the match was halted. The injured were rushed to Carrión Hospital in Huancayo, where doctors confirmed the death of José Hugo de la Cruz Meza. The condition of the other affected players remains uncertain at this time.
