André Ayew has set a new record. At the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Ghanaian had already permanently entered African football history.
He became the third player to have participated in 8 different Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
He joined Egyptian Ahmed Hassan and Cameroonian Rigobert Song in the exclusive list of players who have achieved this feat.
However, his longevity was far from delighting the majority of Black Stars fans who have never hidden their desire to see their captain retire.
The reason? These supporters believe that at 34, André Ayew has already given his all to the national team and should, in principle, make way for the younger generation.
Yet, the Ghanaian star still has plenty of energy and drive, as evidenced by the new record he just set. Transferred to Le Havre FC from Nottingham Forest, the Ghanaian striker continues to be decisive.
He has just broken another record in Ligue 1, having recently played his 200th match in the French league.
A new honorable accomplishment for the forward, who was trained at Olympique de Marseille, André Ayew thus inscribes his name in the history of Ligue 1 in the most beautiful way.
