Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Thomas Partey could have a chance to play for the club before they travel to Ghana for the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
Partey has resumed team training but will miss Thursday’s Premier League match against West Ham.
The midfielder was out for two months with a hamstring injury and there were concerns over his availability for the next tournament.
However, according to Arteta, Partey is recovering and could feature for Arsenal before joining up with the Ghanaian squad.
Asked about the possibility of Partey playing for Arsenal ahead of the African Cup of Nations, Arteta replied: “Yes.
They haven’t trained yet, but I hope they can develop properly.
”For the tournament, he is .The midfielder has received permission from Arsenal to represent Ghana, who will camp in Johannesburg from December 31st.
It is expected that participation will be approved.
The team will spend 10 days there, playing a friendly against Botswana.
Partey’s return to fitness has improved Ghana’s prospects for the tournament.
The team last won the African Championship in 1982 and have been eliminated in three finals since then, and are looking to end a long drought without winning an African Championship title.
With Partey back and players like Mohamed Kudus in great form, Ghana can confidently take on group opponents Mozambique, Cape Verde and Egypt and make a breakthrough in the tournament.
