Black Stars manager Chris Hughton says Arsenal have no choice but to let midfielder Thomas Partey go ahead of next month’s African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The 30-year-old was included in the tournament’s 55-man reserve squad despite having been sidelined since October due to injury.
Partey has started light training sessions at the gym and is expected to be fully fit by the Continental Championships.
However, Arsenal do not appear to be willing to risk the midfielder by releasing him for the month-long tournament.
“I don’t think that’s an argument.
AFCON will be held in January.
“This is a time when certain countries want their players to come to camp,” the Ghanaian coach told talkSPORT.
“They (Arsenal and Arteta) don’t have a choice.
I think what can happen and has always happened is the relationship between the clubs.
“And I think certain players are more interested in his two players than others.
Some national associations may allow you to arrive later in the day.
It was always like this.
But I don’t think we have a choice as long as we have a choice.
” The Black Stars have been placed in Group B, along with Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique, City Sports reported.
