Asamoah Gyan has revealed that he was offered a coaching position with the Black Stars. The former captain of Ghana rejected the offer due to timing.

Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has disclosed that he turned down the opportunity to coach one of Ghana’s national teams. The legendary striker is said to have been offered the position of coach for one of Ghana’s youth teams after obtaining his UEFA B coaching license. Gyan has yet to kickstart his coaching career despite undergoing managerial training with the Welsh Football Association.

“The timing wasn’t right, but let’s see what the future holds. I won’t completely rule out the possibility of coaching because we don’t know what the future holds,” Gyan told Asempa FM, as quoted by Pulse.

The country’s all-time leading goal scorer announced his retirement from football last year after nearly three seasons without playing. He last played for Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League in 2020 and missed out on the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Gyan is also Africa’s leading goal scorer in the World Cup with six goals in three tournaments.
